Summary:
The Director of Music Ministry has the exciting job of leading congregational music and singing to create an atmosphere of intimate worship and celebration. The Director develops music ministries from children to adults. The Director’s responsibility is to build a ministry that attracts and develops choirs, musicians, and soloists. The Director is tasked to recruit, equip, and coordinate musical staff, guest musicians, and volunteer singers and musicians to draw the congregation and community into a growing relationship with God. The Director supervises Munholland’s organist and paid section leaders.
Qualifications:
- A Christian committed to living a life of study, prayer, worship, and service.
- Respect for and ability to lead traditional and contemporary styles and genres of worship music; ability to blend new and old styles.
- Ability to train and nurture singers and musicians.
- Relational skills for working with musicians and an enthusiastic presence for leading worship.
- A calling to serve in this kind of ministry role and ability to clearly articulate that calling to others.
- Proficient in playing piano and/or guitar with the ability to lead while playing.
- Skilled in the use of technology in worship and in the use of sound, computers, ProPresenter, visual media, livestreaming, and video projection.
- Commitment to ongoing personal, spiritual, and professional growth. Must have a teachable heart.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree
- A bachelor’s degree in music and/or Worship is preferable.
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience directing choirs and musicians and leading worship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with the Pastor to coordinate the elements of the Sunday morning worship services, with special attention to the message, and identify creative ways to enhance the services.
- Plan worship each Sunday by choosing songs, hymns, praise sets, and instrumental selections to inspire the congregation’s worship of God, as well as being attentive to the liturgical calendar of the church.
- Lead the music at the Sunday morning worship services (8:30 am and 11 am), including directing the choir, leading the hymns and worship songs with your voice or from an instrument.
- Plan and direct choral rehearsals and activities on a weekly basis, cultivating a Christ-centered attitude among the members and leaders of the choir.
- Lead and oversee the 4 section leaders of the choir (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass), coordinating special music needs, solos, and any other musical needs as they arise.
- Coordinate the special music schedule of soloists, instrumentalists, and guest musicians.
- Help plan special services and events including but not limited to Advent, Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, Pentecost, and World Communion Sunday.
- Blend contemporary and traditional styles of worship music to create an Ancient-New atmosphere of worship using a wide range of worship styles, songs, and instruments.
- Prepare visual media slides and other media needs in ProPresenter each week for all worship services.
- Coordinate the media team for each Sunday service and special occasions.
- Maintain all technology in the sanctuary and ensure that it is in good working order.
- Coordinate maintenance on all pianos on the church campus as well as the pipe organ.
- Serve on the Worship Committee.
- Attend Staff and Church Council meetings to integrate worship into the whole church.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Sr. Pastor.
