Following the process recently adopted by the Global Methodist Church’s General Conference, Bishop Scott Jones worked with the Trinity Conference Superintendency Committee to shape a job description for the Conference Superintendent.
He then consulted with three leadership groups of the Trinity Annual Conference about who should be appointed as the next Conference Superintendent. He invited nominations from the Cabinet, the Connectional Council and the Conference Superintendency Committee. Seven different persons were suggested. Bishop Jones made further inquiries among the leaders and came to believe that the best choice was to name Rev. Jason Burnham to the position. Today Bishop Jones presented that name to the Connectional Council as his choice and the Council affirmed his decision by a unanimous vote.
Rev. Jason Burnham will assume his responsibilities January 1, 2025. Bishop Jones remarked, “All seven of the nominees were leaders who would do well as Conference Superintendent. Two of them received significant support and making the choice was difficult. However, I believe Jason is the best choice for the next phase of leadership in our Conference and I have great confidence in him.”
"I'm humbled by the trust that Bishop Jones and the Connectional Council have bestowed on me through this appointment," said Burnham upon learning the news of his appointment. "I trust the Lord will continue to lead the Trinity Conference to equip our churches and Global Methodist members to multiply and make disciples," he said.
This leadership appointment was prompted by the retirement announcement of Trinity’s current President Pro Tempore, Rev. Jim Welch, who will step down from his role at the end of 2024. Bishop Jones joined the members of the Connectional Council in offering praise and gratitude to Welch, who has faithfully served the Conference during its formational phase as a provisional region of the Global Methodist Church.
